From: Ted TarbellDate: Thu Aug 7, 5:19pm To: trace_test@sag.space.lockheed.com Cc: Subject: Post-shake Focus and Image quality I analyzed the focus tests and Air Force targets taken today. The setup has more vibration than previous ones, and as a result the Air Force targets are not the best ever seen, but the conclusion is that the telescope looks fine in both focus and image quality. These were all taken through the UV (B) quadrant with B amplifier, same as our best comparison data from Palo Alto and pre-shake. The standard focus sets using the cross-hair both look very good. My program has no problems with cross-hairs at 45 degrees, and the results are: CCD Center Lower Left Lower Right Fused Si (WL) X-Focus 97 92 96 Y-Focus 95 92 96 +45 Focus 104 -45 Focus 96 Open-open X-Focus 99 95 97 Y-Focus 98 95 96 +45 Focus 101 -45 Focus 101 The Air Force target sets show the jiggling of the setup: sharp frames are mixed in with ones showing blurring in different directions. Each of the 3 sets (with the target at the top, right & left sides of the CCD) has at least one good frame. The best are top #5, right # 4, and left #5. The focus fits say best focus was at # 4 on average. They all show slightly better contrast in the bars at -45 degrees on the CCD (normally horizontal on the AF target). There is still reasonable contrast at the group with period = 2.6 pixels, although not quite as good as in Palo Alto. 970807_af_top_5 970807_af_rt_4 970807_af_left_5 Ted
